What Bucharest supplies

Bucharest is Romania's largest economic centre. Logistics parks and production sites surround the ring road and line the A1, A2 and A3 motorways, with the car-making region around Pitești about 120 km west and the industrial area of Ploiești to the north. Czech and Slovak buyers mainly import:

  • car parts, wiring harnesses and electrical installation material
  • furniture, wood products and sawn timber
  • clothing, textiles and footwear
  • steel structures, metal products and tyres
  • agricultural commodities such as sunflower oil, grain and seeds in bags or big bags
  • goods from retail distribution centres

Czech exports to Romania include machinery and spare parts, building materials, glass, plastics, paper and consumer goods, so there are usually enough trucks available for the return leg. The exception is late summer and autumn, when the Romanian grain and sunflower harvest absorbs a lot of capacity; book full loads three to four working days ahead in that season.

The route north-west

Bucharest to Prague is about 1,600 km by road, to Brno around 1,400 km. Trucks take the A1 to Pitești, cross the Carpathians through the Olt valley towards Sibiu, where the motorway is still being completed, and continue via Deva and Arad to the Nădlac/Csanádpalota border. In Hungary the route follows the M43 and M5 via Szeged to Budapest, then the M1 to Rajka/Čunovo, through Bratislava and on the D2 and D1 via Brno.

A single driver covers 600–700 km a day, so a full load arrives in three working days; a two-driver crew can cut this to about two. Groupage pallets usually take 5–7 working days.

Schengen since 2025

Border crossings between Hungary and Romania used to be the bottleneck of the whole journey, with waits of many hours. Since Romania's full accession to Schengen in 2025, routine land border checks have ended and transit times have become much more predictable. Customs duty never applied, as both countries are EU members, but random police checks are still possible, so drivers must carry all documents.

Access to Bucharest and collection

Heavy goods vehicles face access restrictions and time windows inside Bucharest, which is why most large warehouses are located outside the ring road. If the pick-up is in the city, the carrier needs an access permit or a smaller vehicle is used. Please confirm the exact address and whether it lies inside the ring, warehouse hours and loading slot, pallet count and size, weight or number of big bags, and whether there is a dock or side loading or a tail lift is needed.

Tolls, bans, documents and service options

The route involves the Romanian road vignette for trucks, distance-based tolls in Hungary and Slovakia and Czech motorway charges; all are included in our quote. Hungary and Slovakia restrict trucks over 7.5 t at weekends and on public holidays, and Romania restricts some roads in summer, so a Friday collection usually arrives on Monday or Tuesday. Documents: CMR note, invoice or delivery note, certificates or temperature records for food and feed, and ADR papers for dangerous goods.

Over this distance, pallet groupage pays off for smaller shipments without a fixed date. From about half a trailer, for heavy goods or a firm deadline, book a dedicated full truckload. An express van with two drivers can deliver an urgent spare part in under two days. Dispatch works Monday to Friday, 8:00–18:00, a non-binding offer usually follows within 30 minutes, and the calculator gives an instant estimate.
