Freight forwarding Venlo – transport to and from Czechia
Freight forwarding Venlo: collections from European distribution centres, greenhouse vegetables, asparagus and plants to Czechia, Czech goods to Venlo DCs.
Why so many warehouses are in Venlo
Venlo is a mid-sized town in Dutch Limburg, but in logistics it plays in the top league and has repeatedly been named the best logistics location in the Netherlands. The reason is its position: the A67 runs west to Eindhoven and Antwerp, the A73 north to Nijmegen and south to Roermond, and right across the border the German A61 heads for the Rhineland and the A40 into the Ruhr. A barge terminal on the Meuse links Venlo with Rotterdam and Antwerp, and a rail terminal connects it to the seaports and the hinterland.
As a result, dozens of large distribution centres on the edge of town serve all of Europe for international manufacturers and retailers. For Czech buyers, goods ordered from an overseas or Western European supplier are often loaded in Venlo, even when the invoice comes from another country.
Loading at a European distribution centre
Typical collections from Venlo to Czechia:
- consumer electronics, computers and accessories,
- clothing, footwear and sporting goods,
- cosmetics, household products and food supplements,
- spare parts for machinery, farm equipment and cars,
- medical supplies and laboratory consumables,
- e-commerce stock, often single pallets or cartons.
Distribution centres run truck handling like a production line. Each loading is booked for a set time and dock; the driver reports at the gate with the loading reference and will not be let in without it. Goods are ready on labelled pallets and the driver signs for the number of units, not the contents of each carton. Please send us the exact reference, the number of pallets, dimensions and weight. If the paperwork does not match what is loaded, the driver notes the discrepancy on the CMR. Smaller orders are a natural fit for pallet groupage; a full truck pays off for complete replenishment loads or when you want no transshipment.
Greenhouses, asparagus and plants
North Limburg around Venlo is one of the Dutch greenhouse horticulture areas, growing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Spring brings the season for Limburg asparagus, which has protected geographical indication status. The town has a large fresh produce trading park, and ornamental plants and cut flowers are traded nearby on both sides of the border. Fresh vegetables and plants travel to Czechia in refrigerated trucks with a set temperature and a continuous temperature log. Plants for planting moving within the EU carry a plant passport issued by the supplier. Asparagus and soft vegetables should be loaded as soon as possible after harvest and driven without unnecessary transshipment.
From Czechia to Venlo
Czech manufacturers supply Venlo distribution centres with goods that are then shipped across Europe: car parts, plastic and metal components, glass, paper packaging, furniture and food. Returns from online shops also travel back to Czechia. Delivering into a distribution centre takes the same discipline as collecting: a booked unloading slot, correctly labelled pallets and documents that match the order.
Route, timing and rules
Prague to Venlo is about 800 km by road, usually via the D5, Rozvadov, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Cologne. A single driver needs two working days; with a double-manned truck or an express van, delivery the next day is possible. Pallet groupage usually takes three to five working days.
The Netherlands has no general weekend truck ban, but most of the route runs through Germany, where trucks over 7.5 tonnes may not drive on Sundays and public holidays. Venlo warehouses often load on Saturdays, so a Saturday morning collection usually waits in Germany on Sunday and arrives in Czechia on Monday. No customs apply between the Netherlands and Czechia: a CMR plus an invoice or delivery note is enough. More on Dutch transport is on our Netherlands page; get a price in the calculator.
