Greater Poland on a trailer

The region around Poznań combines intensive farming with food processing and a long furniture-making tradition. It is one of Poland's leading areas for poultry and pig farming, it processes milk and produces confectionery and beer, and furniture workshops and factories are spread across the province, from Swarzędz on the city's eastern edge to small towns further south. Inside the city, light commercial vans, tyres and other automotive parts are made.

Loads we most often bring from here to Czech customers:

  • upholstered and cabinet furniture, mattresses and furniture components,
  • poultry, pork, cured meat and dairy in reefer trailers,
  • confectionery, dry food and beverages,
  • tyres and parts for commercial vehicles,
  • consignments from large e-commerce and distribution warehouses near the city.

Czech suppliers send engineering products, furniture fittings, glass, construction chemicals and packaging the other way.

Furniture: bulky but light

Furniture fills a trailer long before it reaches its weight limit. For full loads we book high-volume trailers that allow more items to be stacked. Upholstered goods often travel loose or on trolleys rather than on pallets, so we need the number of pieces, their dimensions and who handles loading at the factory. Smaller palletised furniture orders can go by groupage. For regular full loads see our full truckload service.

Chilled food from the region

Meat, poultry and dairy usually leave slaughterhouses and dairies in the evening or at night so that they reach the customer's dock in the morning. We use reefers set to the required temperature with a recorded temperature log, or deep-frozen units for frozen goods. Czech food warehouses work with strict delivery slots, so please confirm the slot in advance; a missed slot means waiting for the next free one.

Route, distance and timing

From Prague the shortest route uses the D11, the Náchod – Kudowa-Zdrój crossing and Wrocław, then the S5 expressway north to Poznań: about 470 km. From Ostrava it is around 450 km via the A1 and A4 to Wrocław and then the S5. A full truck covers it in one working day, with unloading the same evening or next morning; groupage pallets take 2–3 working days. The first part of the trip is described on our Prague – Wrocław page.

Poznań sits on the A2 motorway between the German border at Świecko and Warsaw. Part of the A2 is a concession motorway with its own toll collection; other motorways and expressways use electronic tolling. All tolls are included in prices from our calculator.

Trade fairs, holidays and checklist

Poznań has hosted international trade fairs since 1921 and its exhibition grounds are among the largest in Poland. During major fairs traffic around the grounds is heavy and access is restricted, so we plan exhibit deliveries with the organiser's time slot and a time buffer. Vehicles over 12 t may not drive on Polish public holidays during the day, and in summer also on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sundays. Warehouses close on 3 May, Corpus Christi, 15 August and 11 November.

Before collection, tell us whether loading is in the city, in a zone along the A2 or S5, or at a smaller factory without a dock; for furniture the piece count and dimensions; for food the temperature and delivery slot; and whether pallets are exchanged. Paperwork: CMR plus invoice or delivery note, and a temperature record for food. Poland is in the EU, so no customs clearance is needed.
