A distribution city first, a factory city second

Trade routes between Saxony and Kraków ran through Wrocław in the Middle Ages, and the city still lives off its position. The A4 motorway connects the German border at Görlitz with Upper Silesia and Kraków, the A8 ring road loops around the city, and the S5 to Poznań and the S8 to Warsaw branch off it. Companies that want to serve the whole of Poland from one warehouse often choose Wrocław. In practice this means that a load "from Wrocław" is frequently produced elsewhere and only stored here before it continues to Czech customers.

Ocean containers reach rail terminals around the city and we take them on by truck. The airport on the western edge handles cargo flights; smaller air shipments can be collected by van.

Products made around the city

South of Wrocław, around Kobierzyce, one of Europe's largest plants for lithium-ion cells and electric-vehicle batteries has grown up next to lines producing displays, TV sets and household appliances. The city itself has a long tradition in railway vehicles and buses, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, while heavy and special-purpose trucks are built around Jelcz-Laskowice to the east. Going the other way, Czech suppliers send engineering components, plastic parts, packaging and food to Wrocław warehouses.

Shipping lithium batteries

Lithium cells and batteries are class 9 dangerous goods under ADR. Before we book a truck we need the UN number, gross weight, packaging details and confirmation whether the goods are new, used or damaged, because damaged batteries fall under stricter rules. Only carriers with ADR equipment and certified drivers are used for these loads; more on our ADR transport page. Medicines and some cosmetics travel in temperature-controlled trailers with a recorded temperature log.

Distances and transit times to Czechia

The route via Nysa is shorter but uses ordinary roads through villages, so heavy trucks to Moravia usually take the motorway via Opole. A full truck is typically unloaded the same day or the next working morning; groupage pallets take 1–3 working days.

Polish holidays, tolls and city deliveries

Vehicles over 12 t may not drive on Polish public holidays during the day, and in summer additional restrictions apply on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sundays. Polish holidays such as 3 May, Corpus Christi, 15 August and 11 November close Wrocław warehouses even though Czech ones are open. Motorways and expressways use electronic tolling, which is already included when you price a load in our calculator. The old town on the Oder islands has narrow streets and bridges, so city-centre drops go by van or a small truck with a tail lift.

Before collection, please confirm whether the warehouse is in the southern zone, on the A8 ring or in the city, whether a time slot must be booked, pallet count, dimensions, weight and pallet exchange, and for dangerous goods the UN number. Paperwork is standard for the EU: CMR, invoice or delivery note, plus the ADR transport document where relevant.
