A short lane with a lot of industry
Wrocław is only about 290 km from Prague by road, yet the Lower Silesian region around it has become one of Poland's densest clusters of manufacturing and warehousing. For Czech buyers that makes it one of the closest foreign sources of components and finished goods. As a freight forwarder we arrange the transport through vetted contract carriers – most of our work on this lane is importing into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
What Czech companies source in Lower Silesia
- Household appliances and consumer electronics – washing machines, fridges, dishwashers and TVs from plants and distribution centres south of the city.
- Automotive parts – engines, gearboxes and components from the special economic zone near Wałbrzych and plants around Legnica, often delivered to fixed time windows at Czech assembly lines.
- Copper and metal semi-finished products from the Legnica–Głogów copper district – heavy loads where axle weights need to be checked.
- Granite from Strzegom, kerbs and paving setts, plus dry mixes and insulation.
- Mixed pallets from e-commerce fulfilment centres along the A4 motorway.
- Furniture, glass and porcelain, all traditional Lower Silesian products.
Czech exports heading the other way – machinery, plastics, paper and food – mean that trucks are usually available at short notice, sometimes even for same-day collection.
Routing and timing
The standard route uses the D11 to Hradec Králové, crosses at Náchod / Kudowa-Zdrój and continues through the Kłodzko valley to Wrocław. For warehouses west of the city, around Legnica or Wałbrzych, the Královec / Lubawka crossing and the S3 expressway are often shorter. There are no customs formalities or border checks.
Because of the short distance, same-day delivery is possible: loading in the morning, unloading in Prague or eastern Bohemia in the afternoon. For a full truck, next-working-day morning delivery is the norm, because warehouses on both sides operate time slots. Groupage pallets usually take 1–3 working days. When a production line is waiting, an express van can complete the round trip in a single day.
Collecting from industrial zones
Large sites in Kobierzyce, Bielany Wrocławskie, Oława and Jelcz-Laskowice load at dock doors with booked slots. Drivers report at the gate with the order number and are called to the dock, so we aim for the start of the window. Smaller manufacturers in surrounding villages rarely have a dock; for them we arrange a tail-lift vehicle or side loading of a curtainsider, which also suits long metal profiles and stone on pallets.
Metal and stone are heavy for their volume, so exact weights and pallet distribution matter. For glass and porcelain the key questions are stackability and load securing.
Holidays, tolls and paperwork
Poland restricts trucks over 12 tonnes on public holidays and at set weekend hours in summer; Czechia bans heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on Sunday and holiday afternoons. As the two calendars differ, we watch both. Electronic tolls apply in both countries and are included in the price shown by our online calculator.
A CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are all that is needed – there is no customs clearance within the EU. Dangerous goods travel with ADR instructions in writing and a correctly marked vehicle.
Checklist before you book
- Confirm the warehouse address; the supplier's office in Wrocław and its warehouse in an outer zone are often different places.
- Ask about opening hours and whether a slot booking is required.
- Send pallet count, dimensions, weight and stackability.
- For automotive parts, state the required unloading window in Czechia.
