When a van is the right call
Express van transport is not a substitute for a truck – it is a tool for situations where time decides. It pays off when a delay would cost more than the freight itself: a production line has stopped, an installation crew is waiting, or a late-delivery penalty is looming. The van leaves as soon as it is loaded and drives straight to the consignee, without waiting for other consignments and without depot handling.
Typical express jobs include:
- a spare part for a machine that is down and blocking production,
- missing components needed to complete an order,
- samples, prototypes or documents with a hard deadline,
- topping up a regular shipment that arrived incomplete,
- goods for a trade fair or presentation with a fixed date.
How much fits in a van
Capacity depends on the vehicle type. Common box or curtain vans with a gross weight of up to 3.5 tonnes take roughly 8 to 10 Euro pallets, depending on the cargo area. Payload is limited, however – on larger bodies typically around one tonne – so for heavy goods weight becomes the constraint before pallet count. Smaller consignments can travel in a smaller van.
| Tell us | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Dimensions and weight of each piece | We pick a van that fits the cargo without exceeding its payload |
| Stackability | Determines how much floor space the goods need |
| Loading equipment on site | Vans usually have no tail lift; a forklift or manual loading is needed |
| Required delivery time | Decides between a single driver and a two-driver crew |
We always confirm the exact vehicle type in our quote, based on your details.
Direct, with no transhipment
The main strength of express is a simple journey: loaded once, unloaded once, never handled in between, which reduces the risk of damage or mix-ups. In most European countries, vans up to 3.5 tonnes are also not subject to the weekend driving bans that apply to trucks. A consignment collected on Friday afternoon can therefore be delivered on Saturday, provided the consignee can receive it.
On longer distances, van drivers must still take breaks and rest periods. When the deadline is really tight, we arrange a two-driver crew who take turns at the wheel.
Urgent spare parts into the Czech Republic
Many express jobs are inbound to Czechia. Manufacturers often wait for a part from a foreign machine supplier – a bearing, an electronic module, a tool – and every hour of downtime has a cost. We arrange collection directly at the supplier in Germany, Austria, Italy or elsewhere in Europe and delivery straight to your production line.
To avoid waiting at pickup, make sure the supplier knows a courier is coming and has the part ready with an invoice or delivery note. Parts from Switzerland, the UK or another non-EU country need customs clearance; see international forwarding for details.
Express or something else?
If the shipment exceeds van capacity or timing is less critical, compare express with pallet transport or a full truck. For larger volumes, a dedicated truck can be almost as fast. Compare indicative prices in the freight calculator – or, if it is urgent, call our dispatch directly.
