Warsaw – freight destination from Prague

Why Warsaw matters for Czech supply chains

Warsaw is Poland's largest distribution hub, and the ring of warehouses around the capital supplies much of Central Europe. If your goods are bought in Poland and sold or processed in the Czech Republic, this is one of the busiest lanes we arrange. We plan the transport with vetted contract carriers – we are a forwarder, not a fleet owner – and we handle both directions, though most enquiries on this lane are imports into Czechia.

Route, distance and transit time

The road distance from Prague to Warsaw is approximately 640 km. The usual routing takes the D11 motorway to Hradec Králové, crosses the border at Náchod / Kudowa-Zdrój and continues on the S8 expressway via Wrocław and the Łódź area. When a second pick-up in Silesia is needed, the truck runs via Ostrava and the A1 motorway instead. There are no border controls and no customs duty between the two EU countries.

With a single driver covering roughly 600–700 km a day under the EU driving-time rules, a full truckload collected in the morning is normally delivered on the next working day. Pallet groupage takes about 2–4 working days, depending on consolidation.

Typical imports from the Warsaw region

  • Food products – dairy, cured meats, confectionery and shelf-stable goods from Masovian processors.
  • Apples, juices and concentrates from the large orchard area around Grójec, south of the city, often in temperature-controlled trailers.
  • Cosmetics and household chemicals from regional manufacturers.
  • Upholstered furniture and other light but bulky goods, best shipped as a full truck.
  • Mixed pallets of electronics and consumer goods from e-commerce fulfilment centres.
  • Printed matter, paper and packaging.

Outbound from Czechia, the same trucks carry car parts, machine components, glass and building materials, which keeps capacity available on both legs.

Collection at Polish logistics parks

Most shippers are not in the city itself but in logistics parks at Błonie, Pruszków, Piaseczno or Stryków, where the A1 and A2 motorways meet. These sites work with dock doors and strict time slots, frequently booked a day ahead. For suppliers in central Warsaw or residential districts we arrange a smaller vehicle or a van with a tail lift.

Ask your supplier to confirm the actual loading address, warehouse opening hours, dock availability, the number and size of pallets, gross weight and the order reference. Polish warehouses often refuse to load without that reference. If the consignee is in Brno, Ostrava or Slovakia rather than Prague, we route via the A1 and Ostrava, which is often quicker than the Náchod crossing.

Polish rules and paperwork

Trucks over 12 tonnes may not run on Polish public holidays, and in summer there are additional weekend restrictions at set hours. Holidays such as 3 May, Corpus Christi, 15 August and 11 November do not exist in the Czech calendar, so we schedule around them. Electronic tolls apply on both Polish and Czech motorways and are included in the quote from our freight calculator.

Documents are a CMR consignment note plus an invoice or delivery note. For chilled goods we need the set temperature, and the consignee receives the temperature log on request.

Choosing the right service

For one to ten pallets, pallet groupage is usually the most economical choice. A dedicated truck pays off for regular volumes from one supplier or when production depends on the delivery; urgent spare parts can travel by express van overnight. No. Both are EU member states, so a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are sufficient.

Vehicles over 12 tonnes are restricted on public holidays and, in summer, at set times on weekends. We plan collections around Polish holidays accordingly.

Most logistics parks do, often a day in advance. We book the slot once the supplier confirms the order reference and pallet details.

Groupage suits up to around ten pallets without a tight deadline. A full truck is better for full loads, heavy shipments or time-critical deliveries.
