The details we need before quoting
Dangerous goods transport is governed by the ADR agreement, and the shipper is responsible for classifying the goods correctly. Based on that information we select a specialised carrier licensed and equipped for the substance. For an accurate quote, your enquiry should include:
- UN number – the four-digit substance code, for example UN 1263 for many paints and thinners,
- hazard class – flammable liquids, gases, corrosives, toxic substances and so on,
- packing group I, II or III according to the degree of danger, where assigned,
- quantity – number and type of packages (drums, jerricans, IBCs, boxes) and the volume or weight in each,
- safety data sheet – section 14 confirms the transport data, including the tunnel code.
Small quantities or goods packed in limited quantities (LQ) may fall under simplified rules. Whether they apply to your shipment is something we assess from exactly these details.
Vehicle and driver requirements
The carrier we choose for an ADR load must meet requirements for both vehicle and crew. The driver holds a valid ADR training certificate and carries instructions in writing for emergencies. The vehicle displays orange plates and the prescribed fire extinguishers, and the crew has personal protective equipment plus class-specific items such as a wheel chock, warning signs or spill-containment kit. For larger quantities of some classes, a vehicle approved for that type of load is also required.
Tunnel restrictions and routing
European road tunnels are assigned categories A to E depending on which dangerous goods may pass through them. Each substance has an ADR tunnel restriction code that appears on the transport document. If that code bars a tunnel on the shortest route, the driver must take a detour. This mainly affects Alpine crossings and certain tunnels in Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland. Detours can add time, so we check the tunnel code at the planning stage rather than on the road.
Mixing with other goods
Dangerous goods can often travel with general freight – but not always. The main rules:
| Situation | Our approach |
|---|---|
| ADR goods with general cargo | Usually possible with proper securing and marking |
| Different classes on one vehicle | We check ADR mixed-loading prohibitions |
| Toxic substances with food or feed | Must be separated; a dedicated vehicle is often better |
| ADR pallets in groupage | Only with carriers whose network accepts ADR |
For mixed shipments, list every item including non-hazardous ones. Only then can we decide whether everything travels together.
Importing chemicals and paints into Czechia
Much of our ADR work is inbound to the Czech Republic: industrial paints and coatings, thinners, adhesives, cleaning and technical fluids, aerosols and production raw materials. We arrange collection from the manufacturer or distributor abroad and delivery to your warehouse. Before loading, we request the safety data sheet from the supplier and confirm the goods are packed and labelled to ADR, because a carrier may not accept an incorrectly marked consignment.
Smaller ADR shipments usually travel as pallets, larger ones as a full truckload. For imports from outside the EU, the customs rules described under international forwarding also apply. Check an indicative ADR price in the calculator.
