Bavarian goods bound for Czechia
Munich and southern Bavaria are among Europe's strongest economic regions: premium car makers and their suppliers, aerospace, electronics, medical and laboratory technology, plus an Alpine foothill food industry with steady customers in Czechia. For buyers in Czechia and Slovakia we most often bring in:
- car parts and electronic and powertrain components,
- aerospace parts, precision machined components and metrology equipment,
- medical and laboratory devices, optics and semiconductors,
- dairy products, cheese and butter from Upper Bavaria and the Allgäu, in reefers,
- beer, mineral water and soft drinks,
- hops from the Hallertau, which the route passes straight through,
- building materials, construction chemicals and timber.
Czech exports to Munich include cable harnesses, plastic and metal parts for car plants, furniture, building materials and food, so trucks for imports are usually found quickly.
Two ways from Prague to Munich
The distance is approximately 380 km. The main route uses the D5 via Plzeň to the Rozvadov / Waidhaus crossing, the A6 and A93 past Regensburg through the Hallertau, and the A9 into Munich: about four and a half to five hours of driving. The alternative from Plzeň via Klatovy and the Folmava / Furth im Wald crossing towards Cham and Regensburg is shorter but runs on ordinary roads through villages, so we use it mainly for pickups in the Bavarian Forest or when Rozvadov is congested.
A full load collected in Munich in the morning reaches Prague that evening, or is unloaded the next working morning. Groupage pallets take one to two working days, and an express van covers the run in one go.
Munich as a hub for Italian and Alpine goods
Many Italian and Austrian suppliers serve central Europe from warehouses around Munich. Goods come over the Brenner or from Tyrol, are split in Munich and continue to customers. Collecting there can save you a separate truck through the Alps: the last leg to Czechia is shorter and avoids Alpine passes. For direct shipments from Italy see transport to Italy and the Prague – Milan route.
Loading and delivery in the city
The area inside Munich's Mittlerer Ring is a green-sticker low emission zone. Plants and distribution centres are mostly on the outskirts and around the airport, with dock loading in pre-booked slots. Car makers and their suppliers expect exact arrival times, vehicle pre-notification, specified load securing and properly equipped trucks. For chilled dairy products we book temperature-controlled trailers that log the temperature throughout the trip.
Calendar: holidays, summer Saturdays, trade fairs
- Trucks over 7.5 tonnes may not run in Germany on Sundays and public holidays.
- Bavaria adds Epiphany, Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day, and Munich also observes Assumption Day on 15 August.
- On summer Saturdays a ban applies on selected motorways, in Bavaria mainly those heading to the Alps.
- During major international trade fairs, motorways and warehouses around Munich are overloaded and slots must be booked well ahead.
- Oktoberfest, from late September into early October, slows city traffic.
Documents and what to clarify
There is no customs between Germany and Czechia: a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are enough, plus a temperature log for chilled food and an ADR document for dangerous goods such as construction chemicals. Tolls are included. Ask your supplier for the gate or dock number, time slot, vehicle requirements, pallet count, size and weight. Full loads go as truck transport; check the price in the calculator, and expect our offer within 30 minutes on working days.
