Freight forwarding Žilina – transport to and from the Czech Republic
Road freight between Žilina and the Czech Republic: car parts, bearings, paper and timber from northern Slovakia, crossings, transit times and loading tips.

Where Žilina fits on the map
Žilina lies in the Váh valley in north-western Slovakia, where routes from Moravia, Poland, Bratislava and eastern Slovakia meet. It is the nearest large Slovak city to the Czech Ostrava region: roughly 100 km by road via Třinec and the Mosty u Jablunkova/Svrčinovec crossing, then through the Kysuce valley and Čadca. Brno is about 200 km away, reached either via Vsetín and the Střelná/Lysá pod Makytou crossing to the D1 at Púchov, or via Uherský Brod and Starý Hrozenkov to Trenčín. Prague is around 400 km.
A full truck loaded in Žilina in the morning reaches Ostrava before noon and Brno in the afternoon. Prague and western Bohemia are reached the same evening or the next working morning. Groupage pallets usually take one to two working days.
What the region makes and ships
Since 2006 the local economy has been shaped by the car plant at Teplička nad Váhom on the eastern edge of the city, which builds passenger cars and engines. A supplier park and many smaller producers of plastic parts, pressings, wiring and seats grew up around it. Kysuce and Bytča have a long tradition of bearing manufacturing, Martin and Považská Bystrica of mechanical engineering, and nearby Ružomberok has a large pulp and paper mill. The forests of Kysuce and Orava supply logs, sawn timber and wood products.
Typical imports from the Žilina area into the Czech Republic:
- automotive parts and components for Czech tier suppliers and workshops,
- bearings, shafts and machine parts,
- plastic parts and pressings,
- paper and board in reels or on pallets,
- sawn timber, pallets and furniture.
In the opposite direction, Czech firms send steel sheet, plastic granulate, chemicals, packaging, building materials and consumer goods to northern Slovakia.
Motorways, tunnels and dangerous goods
The D1 motorway reaches Žilina from Bratislava via Trenčín. In December 2025 the section between Lietavská Lúčka and Dubná Skala opened with the 7.5 km Višňové tunnel, the longest road tunnel in Slovakia, so trucks heading for Martin and eastern Slovakia no longer squeeze through the Váh gorge at Strečno. Further east the D1 is still not complete. To the north, the D3 and road I/11 run through Kysuce to Čadca, where traffic splits for Czechia and for Poland (Skalité – Zwardoń).
Long tunnels carry restrictions for dangerous goods according to their tunnel category, so we check every ADR load before dispatch and send it on a detour where required. Slovakia charges an electronic toll for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and bans heavy trucks for most of the day on Sundays and public holidays.
Rail hub and containers
Žilina is one of Slovakia's main rail junctions, where lines from Bratislava, Košice and the Czech border meet. A new marshalling yard and an intermodal terminal near Teplička nad Váhom transfer containers and trailers between rail and road. A sea container can therefore arrive in Žilina by train, and we arrange the final road leg to the consignee or onward to the Czech Republic with a container chassis.
Loading at automotive suppliers
Most industrial sites around Žilina work with booked time slots and a gatehouse where drivers quote an order reference. Parts often travel in returnable plastic crates or steel racks that must go back to the supplier. To avoid waiting time and empty return trips, please send us:
- the site address, gate or dock number and a dispatch contact,
- confirmed loading and unloading slots,
- pallet count, dimensions, weight and stackability,
- the number of empty returnables to collect.
Sawmills in Kysuce and Orava usually load by forklift from the side, so we send a curtainsider that opens fully.
Choosing the service
When a missing part stops a production line, an express van reaches Ostrava within a few hours. A few pallets of bearings or paper suit groupage, while paper reels, timber and full trailers of parts move as a full load without transhipment. No customs apply between Slovakia and Czechia; a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are enough. See transport to Slovakia for the wider picture, and get a quote in the calculator.

FAQ
A full truck reaches Ostrava in two to three hours of driving and Prague, about 400 km away, the same evening or the next working morning. Groupage takes one to two working days.
For Ostrava it is Svrčinovec/Mosty u Jablunkova, for Zlín and Brno either Lysá pod Makytou/Střelná or Drietoma/Starý Hrozenkov, depending on the delivery address.
Car parts from the local automotive supply chain, bearings and machine parts, paper from Ružomberok and sawn timber from Kysuce and Orava.
Yes. Tell us how many crates or racks are due back when booking, and we plan the truck for the return leg as well.
That depends on the tunnel category and the class of goods. We check the route for every ADR shipment and use a detour if needed.
No. Both countries are in the EU and Schengen, so a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are sufficient.
