Freight forwarding Augsburg – transport to and from the Czech Republic
Augsburg is about 440 km from Prague. We arrange road transport of machinery, robots, paper, plastics and Allgäu cheese from Augsburg to the Czech Republic.

From textile mills to robots
Founded by the Romans in 15 BC, Augsburg is one of Germany's oldest cities. In the nineteenth century it became a leading textile centre, its spinning and weaving mills driven by water from a dense network of canals fed by the Lech and Wertach rivers. That water management system has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019.
Most textile production has gone, but the engineering skills stayed. Augsburg now builds large marine and stationary engines, gearboxes, industrial robots and automated production lines. For a forwarder this means that shipments from Augsburg are often not just pallets but heavy, bulky single items that need careful loading plans.
What buyers in Czechia import from the Augsburg area
- industrial robots, handling equipment, gearbox and engine components and spare parts for production lines,
- aerospace structures and space components, frequently made of fibre composites that must be protected from impact,
- graphic paper on reels and printed products – the region has a long paper and printing tradition, supported by sawmills in the surrounding forests,
- plastic granulates, additives and industrial chemicals from two chemical parks near the city,
- building materials such as insulation and dry mortars,
- cheese and butter from the Allgäu, which begins south of Augsburg and travels in reefer trucks.
Going the other way, Czech foundries, forges and metalworking shops supply castings, welded assemblies and machined parts to Augsburg's engineering plants, and Czech plastics moulders deliver to automotive suppliers in the region. This makes round trips easy to arrange.
Route and transit time
The distance from Prague is roughly 440 km. Most trucks cross the border at Rozvadov / Waidhaus, follow the A6 to Nuremberg and the A9 south, then use the A99 ring north of Munich to join the A8 heading west to Augsburg. An alternative runs via the Folmava / Furth im Wald crossing and Regensburg. A single driver covers the distance in one working day, so goods loaded in the morning normally arrive in Prague the same evening or the next morning. From Brno the route goes through Austria and Passau, around 600 km, with delivery on the second working day.
German motorway and federal-road tolls apply to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Trucks over 7.5 tonnes may not drive on Sundays and public holidays, and in July and August a Saturday ban also covers busy holiday motorways, including stretches used on this route.
Augsburg's own public holiday
On 8 August Augsburg celebrates the High Peace Festival, a statutory holiday that exists only in this city. Many companies and warehouses inside the city limits close for the day while neighbouring towns work normally, so avoid planning collections or deliveries for that date. The Assumption on 15 August is also a holiday in Augsburg, as are Epiphany, Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day throughout Bavaria.
Choosing the right vehicle
Machines and robots usually travel as a full load or on a curtainsider that can be loaded from the side by crane. Paper reels go as a full truckload, standing upright on anti-slip mats. Small urgent spare parts and composite components are best sent by van with our express service. A few pallets of plastics or packaging fit well into pallet groupage, because the Munich – Stuttgart corridor sees plenty of traffic towards Czechia. Chemicals classified as dangerous goods travel with ADR-certified carriers.
Before you book
Many smaller businesses occupy former textile mill sites in the city, where yards are tight and an articulated truck may not fit. Please check with the shipper whether a 16.5 m vehicle can enter. Larger plants and distribution warehouses lie mainly on the northern and eastern edges of the city with direct access to the A8.
Send us the loading address, time window, number and size of pallets or pieces, weight and whether a dock is available. For machinery, add a drawing with dimensions and centre of gravity. We usually reply with a quote within 30 minutes during office hours; for an indicative price use the calculator.

FAQ
About 440 km, so a morning collection usually reaches Prague the same evening or the next morning. Brno is typically served on the second working day.
Machinery, industrial robots and spare parts, paper reels, plastic granulates and chemicals. Dairy products from the nearby Allgäu travel in refrigerated trucks.
Better not. It is a public holiday that applies only in the city of Augsburg, and many companies there are closed.
As a full load or on a side-loading curtainsider. We need the dimensions, weight and centre of gravity, and lifting equipment at both ends.
Yes. Augsburg sits on the busy Munich – Stuttgart axis, so a small shipment can easily be combined with other cargo bound for Czechia.
No customs formalities apply between Germany and Czechia. A CMR consignment note and an invoice or delivery note are enough, plus a safety data sheet for chemicals.
