Freight forwarding Brno – road transport, import and export
Freight forwarding for Brno businesses from a South Moravian team: trucks and pallets via D1, D2 and D52 to Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy and Germany.
Closer to Vienna than to Prague
Brno, the Czech Republic's second city, sits at the crossroads of the north–south corridor between Poland and the Adriatic and the east–west link between Prague and Bratislava. Vienna and Bratislava are each about 130 km away by road, Prague about 205 km via the D1. That geography explains why so many warehouses and distribution centres have settled on the southern edge of the city, along the D1, D2 and D52 motorways. Brno also has an international airport at Tuřany handling cargo and is a major rail junction, but road transport remains the most flexible way to move goods door to door.
Exit routes from Brno
| Destination | Route and border crossing | Typical full-truck time |
|---|---|---|
| Vienna, Graz, northern Italy | D52 / road I/52 to Mikulov–Drasenhofen, Austrian A5 and A2 | Vienna same day; northern Italy about 2 working days |
| Bratislava, Budapest | D2 via Břeclav to Lanžhot–Brodské, then Slovak D2 and Hungarian M1 | Same day or next working day |
| Bavaria, central Germany | D1 to Prague, then D5 or D8; or via Austria to Linz and Passau | 1 working day |
| Southern Poland | D1 via Ostrava to the Bohumín crossing and the Polish A1 | 1 working day |
One driver covers around 600–700 km a day, so most destinations in Central Europe are within one or two working days. More detail is on our Brno – Vienna route page.
What the region makes and ships
Brno has been an engineering city since the industrial era. Turbines and power equipment, machine tools, pumps, valves and industrial electronics are produced here and in the surrounding area, and the city is internationally known for electron microscopes and laboratory instruments. Such high-value equipment needs careful securing on the truck and often additional insurance. Furniture, building materials, plastic products and food also leave the region regularly.
South Moravia is the Czech Republic's main wine region, with vineyards around Mikulov, Znojmo and Velké Pavlovice. Bottled wine on pallets travels to Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia, ideally in a temperature-controlled trailer during summer.
Imports into Brno
- castings, steel semi-finished products and components from Austria and northern Italy,
- fresh food, wine and olive oil from Italy and Spain,
- ceramic tiles and sanitary ware from Italy,
- consumer goods from distribution hubs in Austria, Slovakia and Hungary,
- container cargo from the Adriatic ports of Koper and Trieste.
Even single pallets can be collected from your supplier using our pallet groupage service.
Trade fairs and local deliveries
The Brno exhibition grounds have hosted trade fairs for nearly a century, the best known being the international engineering fair. Exhibit deliveries and collections run in strict time slots with controlled access, so book early and send us the organiser's delivery instructions. In the city centre heavy trucks face access restrictions and narrow streets, so shops and restaurants are served by smaller vehicles or vans. Warehouses near the motorways have loading docks and fixed delivery windows worth confirming in advance.
Rules on the road south
Austria bans heavy trucks from Saturday afternoon until Sunday night and enforces night-time restrictions; Slovakia, Hungary and Italy also have weekend and holiday bans. All four countries charge electronic tolls on motorways. We plan Friday afternoon loadings so that the truck clears the border in time, or agree a Monday delivery. Within the EU no customs formalities apply; a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are sufficient. Request a price in the calculator; dispatch is open Monday to Friday, 8:00–18:00.
