Freight forwarding Hanover – transport to and from Czechia
Road freight between Hanover and the Czech Republic: van parts, tyres and rubber goods, biscuits, sugar and trade fair cargo. Pallets, full trucks and express.
Where north Germany's motorways meet
Two of Germany's key motorways cross at Hanover: the A2 links the Ruhr with Berlin and Poland, while the A7 runs from the Danish border down to Bavaria. Together with the A352 and A37 they form a ring lined with distribution warehouses serving northern Germany. The Mittelland Canal also passes through the city, with several inland ports receiving bulk goods, building materials and containers by barge. For Czech importers this means quick motorway access from almost any pick-up point and a good place to consolidate smaller consignments from across Lower Saxony into one truck.
Distribution warehouses along the A2 and A7 almost always work with booked loading slots, and many still practise Euro pallet exchange, where the driver hands over the same number of empty pallets as he loads. Agree with your supplier in advance whether pallets are exchanged or a pallet receipt is issued, to avoid disputes and waiting time at the dock.
Goods from Hanover and Lower Saxony
- vans and commercial vehicle parts – vans are built in Hanover,
- tyres and technical rubber products, a long-standing local industry,
- biscuits, baked goods and confectionery, plus sugar from the fertile Hildesheim plain to the south,
- mechanical engineering, electrical and medical products,
- from cities east of Hanover: cars and car parts, steel, rolling stock and components.
Czech suppliers send automotive parts, glass and porcelain, furniture, beer and building materials. If you import regularly, we can link your loads to trucks returning from these deliveries.
Route via Magdeburg and Dresden
Hanover to Prague is approximately 520 km: the A2 east to Magdeburg, the A14 via Halle and Leipzig, the A4 and A17 past Dresden to the Breitenau/Krásný Les border, then the D8. A single driver can manage this in one day, so morning loading usually means evening or next-morning delivery in Prague. Brno is approximately 730 km away, with delivery on the next working day. The A2 is one of Germany's busiest truck corridors, and accidents or roadworks can cost hours, so we build in a buffer for fixed slots. See also freight forwarding Leipzig for the section towards the border.
Trade fair weeks
Hanover's exhibition centre has the largest exhibition area in the world. A major industrial fair takes place every spring, and in other years there are large fairs for agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles. During these weeks the motorways around the fairground south of the city are congested and drivers' accommodation is scarce. If your collection falls in a fair week, tell us when ordering and we will adjust the arrival time. For Czech exhibitors we arrange full-truck transport of exhibits and stand material on fixed build-up dates.
Choosing the right vehicle
Tyres and rubber parts are bulky: a trailer of loose tyres fills up long before it reaches its weight limit, so loading metres decide the cost. Biscuits and confectionery need temperature control in summer. Palletised sugar is heavy and needs exact weights. Spare parts for machines or vehicles can travel by express van, usually delivered the next day. Smaller consignments from several Lower Saxony locations can be combined in groupage.
Holidays and paperwork
Trucks over 7.5 tonnes may not drive on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 pm, and in July and August on Saturdays on selected motorways. Lower Saxony additionally observes Reformation Day on 31 October. No customs formalities apply within the EU; a CMR note and invoice or delivery note are sufficient, plus temperature records for food. Our calculator gives a price including German toll.
