Freight forwarding Jihlava – road transport, import and export
Road freight for Jihlava and Vysočina: headlights, car parts, wood panels and stone out, materials in. D1 to Prague and Brno, via Hatě to Vienna.
Halfway along the D1
Jihlava, the capital of the Vysočina Region, sits almost exactly in the middle of the D1 motorway between Prague (about 125 km) and Brno (about 90 km). That makes it a natural place to serve both Bohemia and Moravia: a truck loaded in Jihlava can unload in either city before noon. The Vysočina stretch of the D1 was comprehensively modernised between 2013 and 2021; roadworks and queues still occur, but it remains the backbone of the region.
Route I/38 runs north via Havlíčkův Brod to Kolín and south via Moravské Budějovice to Znojmo and the Hatě/Kleinhaugsdorf border crossing. From there an Austrian road continues via Hollabrunn to Vienna, about 190 km from Jihlava in total. The same route serves Styria, Slovenia and Italy, which are reached via the A2 beyond Vienna. More on Austrian driving rules is on our page transport to Austria.
From silver to headlights
Jihlava grew rich on silver mining in the 13th century, and its mining law became a model for other mining towns in Central Europe. Today it is above all an automotive town: car headlights and fuel-injection systems are made here, alongside numerous suppliers of metal and plastic parts. The city also produces wood-based panels for furniture and construction.
The rest of the region adds variety:
- Žďár nad Sázavou: heavy engineering, forgings and castings.
- Třebíč: a long shoemaking tradition; the Dukovany nuclear power plant, which generates around a fifth of Czech electricity, lies to the south-east.
- Světlá nad Sázavou: glassmaking.
- Humpolec: a historic cloth-making town.
Imports into the region include electronic components, plastic granulate, steel and aluminium, surface-treatment chemicals, wood fibre and packaging. Main export markets are Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Italy and Hungary.
Other lanes from Vysočina
For Germany, trucks usually take the D1 to Prague and the D5 via Rozvadov: Nuremberg is about 420 km and Munich roughly 500 km, one working day either way. Slovakia is reached via Brno and the D2, with Bratislava about 220 km away. Poland is served via Brno, Olomouc and Ostrava, or via Hradec Králové and Náchod, depending on the destination. Domestically, the central location pays off: groupage pallets from Vysočina reach most Czech regional capitals on the next working day.
Potatoes, flax and granite
Vysočina is an upland plateau with a cool, damp climate. Farms grow mainly potatoes, oilseed rape and fodder crops, and the region has a tradition of flax processing. Quarries supply granite and other building and decorative stone. Potatoes need ventilated trailers in summer and frost protection in winter, while stone exhausts a truck's payload long before the deck is full, so we always need the exact weight of each block or pallet.
Picking the right service
Headlights and car parts are bulky, shock-sensitive and tied to production schedules, so they travel as full loads in fixed slots, with express vans as back-up. Wood-based panels go as full loads loaded from the side. Forgings and machine parts concentrate weight on a small area and need proper lashing. Shoes, glass and other smaller consignments for several receivers suit groupage pallets.
Winter and what we need from you
The D1 across Vysočina is one of the snowiest sections of the Czech motorway network, and an accident can mean long queues and slow diversions on minor roads, so we add a buffer for deadline-driven winter deliveries. For a quote, send the addresses, number and size of pallets, weight and dates. Within the EU, an invoice and CMR note suffice. Our calculator gives a quick estimate, and dispatch usually replies within 30 minutes on weekdays.
