What Andalusia sends to Central Europe

Andalusia is the world's largest olive oil producer. Olive groves cover much of the provinces of Jaén, Córdoba and Seville, and table olives are processed around Seville itself. For Czech importers, retailers and food manufacturers we arrange:

  • olive oil in bottles, jerrycans and IBC totes
  • table olives in jars and drums
  • oranges and other citrus, plus strawberries and berries from Huelva, roughly from winter to early summer
  • greenhouse vegetables from the Almería area
  • wine and sherry from around Jerez
  • spices, canned goods and dried fruit

Beyond food, Seville has a strong aerospace supply base, plus steel structures and building materials. The city also has an inland river port on the Guadalquivir with logistics land, though most of Andalusia's container traffic goes through Algeciras and Huelva.

A long haul: route and transit

Seville to Prague is roughly 2,750 km by road. The usual route takes the A-4 north via Córdoba and the Despeñaperros pass to Madrid, the A-1 to Burgos, crosses into France at Irun, runs through western France past Bordeaux and Paris into Germany and reaches Czechia via Nuremberg and Rozvadov. When the carrier also loads in Murcia or Valencia, it goes via Granada and the Mediterranean coast to La Jonquera instead.

At 600–700 km a day for a single driver, the drive alone takes four to five days, so a full truck usually arrives 5–6 working days after loading. A double-manned truck runs almost non-stop and cuts that considerably when time matters. Groupage pallets are first collected into a hub and typically take 6–9 working days.

Heat, temperature control and paperwork

Andalusian summers can overheat goods in a standard curtain-sider. Fresh produce always travels in a reefer with a temperature log, and in summer we recommend temperature control for chocolate, cosmetics and some drinks too. Olive oil handles normal transport well; in a hard winter in Germany or Czechia it may thicken and turn cloudy, which does not affect quality but is worth knowing at goods-in.

Food shipments need a CMR consignment note, invoice or delivery note and, for chilled goods, the temperature record. Wine and sherry are excise goods, so agree the accompanying excise document and who handles the duty in Czechia before collection. No customs clearance applies within the EU.

Driving bans across three countries

On a route this long, a weekend almost always falls within the journey. France bans heavy trucks from Saturday evening to Sunday evening and on holidays; Germany on Sundays and holidays and on summer Saturdays on selected motorways; Spain sets its own holiday and peak-season restrictions. Loading on Monday or Tuesday usually lets the truck reach Czechia before the weekend. Tolls in France, Germany and on some Spanish sections are included in the price from our freight calculator.

Picking the service and booking

For a few pallets of oil or olives, pallet groupage works well – plenty of food freight leaves Andalusia for central Europe. From about 12–15 pallets, for seasonal produce orders or temperature-sensitive goods, choose a full truck. Urgent spare parts can go by express van with two drivers.

Southbound, we move machinery, glass, food-industry packaging and agricultural equipment from Czechia, though fewer trucks run all the way to southern Spain than to Catalonia, so plan exports earlier. For imports, ask your supplier to confirm address and opening hours (many work early in summer to avoid the heat), dock availability, pallet count and size, weight and reference. For oil in IBCs or drums, state the packaging and whether it can be stacked. Book at least 3–4 working days ahead.
