Freight forwarding Strasbourg – transport to and from Czechia
Road freight from Strasbourg to the Czech Republic in one to two days: Alsace beer, wine and food, machinery and Rhine port cargo. Pallets, full loads, express.
The French city next door
Prague is roughly 650–700 km from Strasbourg by road, Brno about 900 km. Almost the whole route is German motorway: from the Rozvadov/Waidhaus crossing along the A6 via Nuremberg and Heilbronn, onto the A5 at Walldorf, south past Karlsruhe and over the Rhine at Kehl. The French part is only a few kilometres long.
That makes Strasbourg very different from other French pickups. A full truck loaded in the morning usually reaches Prague the next working day, because the driver has to stop at the daily driving limit. An express van can often deliver the same evening.
A major Rhine port
Strasbourg is one of France's largest inland ports. Its basins along the Rhine have container terminals, grain silos, fuel and building-material depots and rail connections. Containers come up the Rhine by barge from Rotterdam and Antwerp, so overseas goods can reach Alsace by water and continue to the Czech Republic by truck. For a terminal pickup we need the container number and confirmation that the goods are cleared and released.
Cargo from Alsace
- Beer and hops – Alsace is France's leading brewing region, and hops are grown in the north of the region.
- Wine and crémant – white wines from the foothills of the Vosges and the sparkling crémant d'Alsace, both excise goods that need an electronic accompanying document.
- Food – sauerkraut, foie gras, Munster cheese, gingerbread, charcuterie and pasta, partly chilled.
- Machinery and components – engineering products, automotive parts and food-processing equipment.
- Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies from sites south of the city, often temperature-controlled.
- Port cargo – grain, feed, building materials and the contents of overseas containers.
Czech suppliers ship car parts, machinery, glass, furniture and building materials to the Strasbourg area. With heavy traffic between Baden and Alsace, return loads are easy to find.
Service options and transit times
| Service | Best for | Transit to Prague |
|---|---|---|
| Express van | spare parts, samples, up to about 1 tonne | same day or next morning |
| Full truck | beer, wine, machinery, port cargo | usually next working day |
| Groupage pallets | single pallets without urgency | about 2–4 working days |
The main toll on the route is the German truck toll, which covers motorways and federal roads; it is included in the result from our freight calculator. Germany bans trucks on Sundays and public holidays and on selected motorways on summer Saturdays; France from Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00.
The old town and the Christmas market
The historic centre sits on the Grande Île, encircled by the river Ill, and is practically closed to large trucks; shops and restaurants are supplied by smaller vehicles in morning windows. During the Advent Christmas market, one of the oldest in Europe, the island is closed off by a security perimeter and vehicle access is even more restricted, so deliveries for market stalls or city-centre shops must be arranged well ahead. Strasbourg also runs a low-emission zone, whose current rules we check before each job. The port and industrial zones lie to the east towards the Rhine, with good motorway access.
Tips for pickups
Wineries in Alsace villages often have narrow access and no dock; tell us whether a forklift is available, or we send a vehicle with a tail lift. The Rhine bridge at Kehl and the Strasbourg bypass are busy at rush hour, so we prefer morning loadings that let the truck cover most of the distance the same day. Beer and wine travel best temperature-controlled in summer and protected from frost in winter. If you also buy in Baden or southern Alsace, a Strasbourg pickup combines well with Mulhouse or the German side of the Rhine.
