A distribution hub in the middle of Spain

Because Zaragoza is equidistant from Spain's four largest cities, distributors have built large warehouses around it to serve the whole Iberian Peninsula and southern France. The biggest logistics platform lies on the south-western edge of the city along the A-2 motorway, connected to the airport and the railway. More warehouses line the roads towards Huesca and Logroño. For a Czech buyer, this means goods produced elsewhere in Spain are often collected here.

The city also operates an inland rail terminal served by container trains from the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao, so an overseas container can be unloaded far from the coast and its cargo moved on by truck. Zaragoza airport ranks among Spain's busiest cargo airports, mainly handling freighter flights with clothing and consumer goods.

Goods we move from Aragon

  • household appliances and spare parts – bulky cartons where floor space matters more than weight,
  • cars and automotive components from the plant west of the city and its suppliers,
  • pork and meat products – Aragon has one of the largest pig herds in Spain,
  • paper reels, sheets and corrugated board,
  • clothing and textiles from distribution centres,
  • wine from Aragonese areas such as Cariñena and Campo de Borja.

Southbound, Czech suppliers mostly send machine and metal parts, automotive components, glass and plastic products to Aragon.

Crossing the Pyrenees: three options

The road distance from Zaragoza to Prague is approximately 2,000 km. A single driver covers 600–700 km per day under EU driving-time rules, so a full truck usually arrives in the Czech Republic about 4 working days after loading. Groupage pallets go through a consolidation hub first and typically take 5–7 working days.

Plan around driving bans: France restricts trucks at weekends and on public holidays, Germany on Sundays, holidays and some summer Saturdays, and Spain mainly on holiday weekends. Tolls apply in France, Germany, the Czech Republic and on part of the Spanish motorways.

Choosing the right service

Appliances and packaging fill a trailer long before they reach its weight limit, so a full truckload or an agreed number of loading metres is often the sensible choice. A few pallets of spare parts or samples travel well in our pallet groupage. Meat and cured products always go in a refrigerated or freezer trailer with temperature logging, accompanied by the producer's veterinary documents. Urgent parts for a production line can go by express van without transshipment.

Loading in Zaragoza: practical notes

  • Large warehouses work with booked time slots – ask your supplier to confirm the loading window in advance.
  • We need the exact address, number and size of pallets, total weight and whether there is a loading dock.
  • Trucks do not enter the historic centre, and Spanish cities over 50,000 inhabitants are introducing low-emission zones, so shop pickups in town need a smaller vehicle.
  • The strong north-westerly wind of the Ebro valley, known locally as the cierzo, slows empty and lightly loaded curtain-siders, so allow some slack in winter.
