Freight forwarding Luxembourg – transport to and from Czechia
Freight forwarding Luxembourg: onward trucking of air cargo from Findel, steel beams and tyres to Czechia, the route via Schengen and Luxembourg truck rules.

From the cargo airport to Central Europe
Luxembourg Findel airport ranks among Europe's leading freight airports. Freighters arrive from Asia, the Americas and the Middle East, and much of what they carry continues by truck rather than by air: electronics, spare parts, pharmaceuticals, machinery and fashion are cleared or placed under transit and distributed across the continent. Czech importers regularly receive goods that were flown into Luxembourg and finish their journey on the road.
For such a job we need the air waybill number, whether the goods are already cleared or will travel under T1 transit to a Czech customs office, and the contact at the handling agent. Non-EU goods will not be released without customs documents. Pharmaceuticals and electronics often need a closed or temperature-controlled vehicle and continuous supervision.
What Luxembourg ships to the Czech Republic
Steel has a long history here. Rolling mills in the south, around Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette, focus on heavy beams and steel sheet piles for construction. Tyre production is another major activity. Typical loads to Czechia:
- steel beams, sections and sheet piles, long and heavy, often on special trailers,
- truck and car tyres,
- overseas air freight transferred to road,
- still and sparkling wine from the Moselle valley, temperature-protected in summer,
- office equipment and archives when financial-sector companies relocate.
Czech exporters send building materials, glass, furniture, food and drinks and machine parts. Luxembourg also has its own river port on the Moselle at Mertert.
Rail motorway at Bettembourg
Between Bettembourg and Dudelange, south of the capital, a large multimodal terminal loads semi-trailers onto a rail motorway running to Le Boulou near the Spanish border, and offers rail links to Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Trieste. For cargo from Iberia to Czechia this can be a useful combination: the trailer crosses most of France by train and a truck brings it on from Luxembourg. For ordinary shipments from Luxembourg itself, a direct truck remains our default.
Route via Schengen
From Prague the route follows the D5 to Rozvadov / Waidhaus and the A6 past Nuremberg and Mannheim to Saarbrücken, then the A8 to Perl and across the Moselle bridge into Schengen, the village that gave its name to the free-movement agreement. The A13 continues inland. An alternative runs via Kaiserslautern and Trier. Distances are approximately 760 km from Prague, 670 km from Plzeň and 960 km from Brno. A single driver needs two working days; a double crew can arrive the next morning. Pallet groupage usually takes three to five working days. Almost every truck refuels in Luxembourg, where diesel is traditionally cheaper than in neighbouring countries.
Rules that differ in Luxembourg
- Trucks of 12 tonnes and more pay a time-based Eurovignette for Luxembourg motorways, while Germany and Czechia charge per kilometre. All tolls are in our price.
- Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are banned from Saturday evening until the end of Sunday and from the eve of a holiday until its end; exact times differ for traffic towards France and Germany.
- Access to the capital for goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes is restricted, so city-centre deliveries often go by van.
- Commuters from France, Belgium and Germany, close to half of the country's workforce, jam the motorways at peak hours.
Luxembourg is in the EU, so local goods need only a CMR and an invoice. Addresses and documents are usually in French or German. See also neighbouring Metz and get a price from the calculator.
