Freight forwarding Odense – transport to and from Czechia
Road freight between Odense and the Czech Republic: robotics, offshore wind parts from Lindø, Funen pot plants. Route over the Little Belt, transit times, tips.

Robots first
Ask a Czech buyer what comes from Odense and the answer is increasingly automation equipment. The city's robotics cluster counts more than 300 companies building collaborative robot arms, autonomous mobile robots for warehouses and hospitals, grippers, sensors and control software. Shipments are small, valuable and sensitive to shocks and moisture, so they rarely fill a trailer. We usually send them by express van straight to the factory floor, or in a closed box trailer with load bars when several crates go together. Tell us crate dimensions, weight and whether the cases can be stacked.
Wind power at Lindø
About 15 km north-east of the city, at Munkebo on Odense Fjord, Denmark's largest shipyard once built container ships. After it closed, the site became an industrial park dedicated to offshore wind: more than 120 companies produce and ship nacelles, towers, foundations and other parts, components for over 1,400 turbines have been loaded out there, and a test centre examines components of very large turbines. Loads for the Czech Republic are mostly spare parts, bearings, electrical systems and tools, but outsized pieces occur and need permits in every transit country. Send drawings and weights early.
The city port itself has three main basins and around 4,200 m of quays for bulk goods, metals and building materials serving the island.
The route and the bridges
Funen sits between Jutland and Zealand. From Prague a truck takes the D8 to Dresden, continues via Berlin and Hamburg on the A7 to the border at Flensburg/Padborg, follows the E45 to Kolding and turns onto the E20 across the Little Belt. That is approximately 950–980 km, and a full truck normally arrives on the afternoon of the second working day or the next morning. Brno adds about 200 km. The Little Belt bridges are free; only the Great Belt bridge towards Copenhagen carries a toll, so it matters only when a load continues east.
| Cargo | Usual solution | Transit to Prague |
|---|---|---|
| Robots and automation kit | express van or box trailer, no reloading | 1–2 working days |
| Wind turbine spares | full truck, permits for oversize parts | 2–3 working days |
| Pot plants, food | temperature-controlled trailer | 2–3 working days |
| Mixed pallets | groupage via border hubs | 4–6 working days |
Funen's other exports and what goes back
Funen is the heart of Danish horticulture, and potted and ornamental plants leave the island on shelved metal trolleys in temperature-controlled trailers; returning the empty trolleys must be planned. Pork, dairy products and beer from regional breweries travel chilled, while the university hospital, the city's largest employer, draws in medical and laboratory supplies. Czech suppliers send steel structures and castings for the wind industry, cables, electrical materials, glass, furniture and building components.
Rules worth knowing
- Since 2025 Denmark charges trucks over 3.5 t a distance-based toll that varies with CO₂ emissions.
- Denmark has no general weekend driving ban, but the German Sunday ban still applies on the way.
- Odense has a low emission zone; we assign compliant vehicles, and smaller trucks suit the centre, where a 14.5 km tram line opened in 2022.
- No customs within the EU: a CMR note plus invoice or delivery note is enough, with temperature logs for food and plants.
Before booking, confirm the loading slot with the shipper: robotics firms often dispatch in the afternoon after final testing, while wind industry sites at Lindø work with gate registration and require the driver to bring the reference number and safety equipment.

FAQ
The route is approximately 950–980 km, so a full load usually arrives on the second working day evening or third morning. Groupage takes 4–6 working days.
No. Trucks from Germany cross the Little Belt bridges, which are free; only the Great Belt bridge to Zealand is tolled.
By express van or closed box trailer without transshipment, with the crates secured. We need dimensions, weight and stacking information.
Yes. Standard parts go on regular trailers; outsized components need permits and sometimes escorts, so plan several days ahead.
On shelved metal trolleys in a temperature-controlled trailer with logging. We agree the return of empty trolleys in advance.
No, Denmark is in the EU. A CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are sufficient.
