Freight forwarding Győr – transport to and from the Czech Republic
Road freight between Győr and the Czech Republic: engines, car parts, axles and food from north-west Hungary. Route via Rajka, transit times, port Gönyű.
An engine city on the M1
Győr is Hungary's sixth-largest city and capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron county. It lies where the Mosoni-Duna, Rába and Rábca rivers meet, less than 20 km from the Slovak border and about 120 km from both Vienna and Budapest. Its economy revolves around the car industry: Győr has one of the world's largest engine plants, producing combustion engines and electric drives, and it assembles passenger cars as well. The city also has a long tradition in axles, gearboxes and parts for commercial vehicles and railway wagons, and its university specialises in automotive engineering.
Other sectors include food (long-life bakery products, biscuits, meat products), plastics and metalworking, while the surrounding Little Hungarian Plain grows grain, maize and sugar beet.
Freight flows with the Czech Republic
Typical imports from Győr into Czechia:
- engines, electric drives and their components,
- axles, gearboxes and parts for trucks, buses and farm machinery,
- plastic and metal parts from automotive suppliers,
- biscuits, confectionery and other food,
- farm commodities from the Little Hungarian Plain.
Czech firms send castings, forgings, wiring harnesses, electronics, steel sheet, packaging and building materials to Győr. Both countries are in the EU and Schengen, so a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are enough.
Route and transit times
From Czechia, trucks take the D2 via Břeclav and the Lanžhot/Kúty crossing, pass Bratislava to the Čunovo/Rajka crossing, then follow the Hungarian M15 and M1 east to Győr. Brno is about 210 km away, Prague around 410 km. A full load reaches Brno in three to four hours of driving and Prague the same evening or next working morning. Groupage pallets take two to three working days because they pass through a hub.
Shippers from Slovakia's Žitný ostrov area can cross the Danube directly north of Győr on the Medveďov/Vámosszabadi bridge. The M1 continues to Vienna via Hegyeshalom/Nickelsdorf, and the M85 leads to Sopron.
Hungary charges a distance-based electronic toll for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and bans trucks over 7.5 tonnes at weekends and on holidays, starting earlier on summer Saturdays. Details are on our Budapest page. Because Győr is so close to the border, a truck loaded on Friday afternoon usually leaves Hungary before the ban starts.
The Danube port at Gönyű
About 15 km east of Győr, the public Danube port at Gönyű links river, rail and road. It handles bulk materials, farm products, fertiliser and oversized project cargo for which the river is cheaper than the road. Low water in dry months can limit how much a barge carries. When goods arrive by river, we arrange collection by truck to the Czech Republic or transfer into trailers.
Supplying engine and car production
Plants in Győr work just in time: every truck needs a booked slot, the driver an order reference and the load correct labelling. Engines and gearboxes are heavy, so trucks often reach their weight limit before they fill up. We therefore need the exact weight of each pallet or rack to avoid overloading the vehicle or individual axles. Returnable crates and steel racks travel back empty, and combining that return leg with another Czech load keeps costs down.
Which service fits? An express van brings an urgent part to Brno in a few hours; a full trailer of engines goes as a full truckload the same day; a few pallets of food or parts suit groupage; meat products and chocolate travel refrigerated in summer. Oils, paints and adhesives may fall under ADR, in which case we book a licensed carrier. Prices are in the calculator.

FAQ
A full truck covers the roughly 210 km to Brno in three to four hours and reaches Prague, about 410 km away, the same evening or the next working morning.

Yes, we arrange onward road transport to Czechia or transfer into trailers. Please send weight, dimensions and the release date.
Engines and gearboxes are heavy, so trucks hit the weight limit before the volume limit. Exact weights prevent overloading the vehicle and its axles.
Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes may not drive at weekends and on public holidays, with an earlier start on summer Saturdays. We plan Friday loadings so the truck leaves Hungary in time.
