Freight forwarding Karlovy Vary – road transport, import and export
Freight forwarding Karlovy Vary: export of mineral water, porcelain, glass and herbal liqueur to Germany and Europe, imports into the region and spa deliveries.
A spa town in a narrow valley
Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) sits where the Teplá and the Rolava rivers flow into the Ohře. The spa quarter fills the narrow, wooded Teplá valley, while factories, warehouses and retail parks occupy flatter land along the Ohře towards Ostrov and Sokolov. In practice this means a semi-trailer reaches an industrial site on the edge of town easily, but cannot – and usually may not – enter the colonnade streets.
With just under 49,000 inhabitants the city is small, yet internationally famous. Its film festival, one of the oldest in the world, takes place every summer, and with it come stage equipment, booth materials and hotel supplies, all delivered and collected again within a few days.
What the region produces
Food and drink lead local industry. A mineral water bottling plant is the city's largest industrial employer, the herbal liqueur has been distilled here since 1807 and the spa wafers baked since 1867. Hand-blown and cut lead crystal has been made in the city since 1857. The surrounding area has mined kaolin since the 18th century and gave rise to more than thirty porcelain brands; hard porcelain fired above 1,400 °C is still produced in Nová Role.
- Mineral water: heavy pallets fill a truck by weight long before volume, so we plan full loads with axle limits in mind.
- Spirits: consignments leaving a tax warehouse under excise duty suspension travel with an electronic administrative document; we need its reference before loading.
- Porcelain and glass: fragile, high-value goods best shipped non-stackable and without transhipment.
- Kaolin and ceramic raw materials: bagged or in big bags, needing a dry, clean trailer.
Imports into Karlovy Vary
Hotels and spa houses buy food, beverages, linen, cosmetics and furnishings. Bottling plants need film, caps, cartons and labels; porcelain makers order glazes, decals and kiln spare parts. Much of this comes from neighbouring Bavaria and Saxony. Single pallets travel by pallet groupage, larger orders as direct loads.
Delivering inside the spa zone
The central spa area is closed to general traffic. Signs at each entrance allow only vehicles with a permit issued for a fee by the municipal police, and retractable bollards control access. Supply vehicles are let in during set time windows; outside them a one-day permit or prior arrangement is needed. For hotels we therefore use a van or small truck with a tail lift and confirm the delivery entrance in advance. Factories outside the centre have normal docks, though some porcelain and glass dispatch areas load at ground level, so side loading may be required.
Routes to Germany
Prague is about 130 km away; the D6 is a motorway only on some sections so far, the rest is a trunk road. Westwards the D6 continues via Sokolov to Cheb and the Pomezí nad Ohří / Schirnding crossing into Upper Franconia and the A93. Nuremberg is roughly 200 km away, a same-day delivery for a full truck. For Saxony and the A72, the Vojtanov / Schönberg crossing near Plauen is shorter. The mountain road over Boží Dar to Oberwiesenthal is the direct way to Chemnitz, but its gradients and winter conditions suit vans better than trucks. Germany bans vehicles over 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays, and on some motorways on summer Saturdays; tolls apply on motorways and federal roads. See transport to Germany.
Choosing the service
Full loads suit water and beverages, direct vehicles suit porcelain and crystal, vans suit hotel deliveries and festival logistics where arrival time matters more than capacity. For urgent consignments we offer express transport. The calculator gives an indicative price, and a non-binding offer usually follows within 30 minutes.
