What Salzburg ships to the Czech Republic

Salzburg province has no heavy steel or chemicals; its strengths are timber, food, beverages and trade. Typical imports we organise for Czech customers:

  • sawn timber, glulam, timber-frame elements and prefabricated wooden building parts from Alpine sawmills,
  • beverages in cans and bottles, beer and mineral water, usually full loads that hit the weight limit before the volume limit,
  • cheese and dairy products from the Pinzgau and Pongau valleys, and confectionery,
  • skis and winter sports equipment made in the mountain valleys,
  • goods from central distribution warehouses, from household products to car parts.

In the other direction we deliver building materials, glass and porcelain, furniture, beer, food and hotel equipment for a tourism industry that runs almost all year. Hotel and resort deliveries peak in autumn ahead of the winter season, when free truck capacity is also tightest, so book early.

One city, three motorways

On Salzburg's northern edge three main corridors meet: the A1 east to Linz and Vienna, the Walserberg border crossing onto Germany's A8 towards Munich (about 145 km), and the A10 Tauern motorway south across the Alps to Villach, Italy and Slovenia. Many loads described as "from Salzburg" actually leave distribution warehouses along the A1 on the northern and western outskirts, which supply much of western Austria and neighbouring Bavaria. Salzburg is also on the main western rail line and the Tauern railway, with a combined-transport terminal for containers and swap bodies; consignments that arrive by rail can be collected there and trucked to the Czech Republic.

The route to Prague and Brno

Prague is roughly 380 km away. The shortest route runs on the A1 to Linz, then the A7 and S10 to the Wullowitz – Dolní Dvořiště crossing and on via České Budějovice on the I/3 and D3. Brno is about 440 km via Vienna and Mikulov. A truck loaded early in Salzburg can reach South Bohemia the same day; Prague and Brno are usually served the next working morning. Austrian motorways have a distance-based truck toll, the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels on the A10 an extra section toll, and trucks over 7.5 t may not drive from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00.

Combining Salzburg with Bavaria and Upper Austria

Salzburg borders the Bavarian town of Freilassing, and Rosenheim and Munich are a short run up the A8. If your goods come from several suppliers in the region, one truck can collect them all:

  • Salzburg plus Linz – on the direct route, ideal for South and Central Bohemia;
  • Salzburg plus south-east Bavaria – suppliers on both sides of the border;
  • Salzburg plus Munich – larger volumes for West Bohemia, returning via the D5 and Rozvadov.

Germany has repeatedly reintroduced temporary checks at the Walserberg crossing, which can slow trucks at peak times. Routing via Bavaria also means Germany's Sunday truck ban and, in July and August, a Saturday ban on selected motorways including the A8. Smaller volumes from several suppliers can travel by pallet groupage.

Loading and delivering in Salzburg

The UNESCO-listed old town is largely pedestrianised, with restricted delivery access, narrow lanes and heavy tourist traffic, so shops and hotels there are best served by smaller vehicles in the morning. Warehouses on the outskirts have docks and booked time slots. Sawmills in the valleys often load by forklift from the side, so we book curtainsiders. Please confirm the address, opening hours, pallet count and size, weight and, for timber, length. Paperwork is a CMR note plus invoice or delivery note, with a temperature record for chilled food.
