From Prague to the Inn valley

Innsbruck is roughly 540 km from Prague. Trucks take the D5 to the Rozvadov – Waidhaus border, continue past Regensburg and Munich on the A8 to the Inntal junction and take the A93 to Kufstein, where the Tyrolean A12 begins. From Brno the route runs via Vienna, Salzburg and the German A8, about 620 km in total. One driver covers Prague to Innsbruck in a day, so delivery or collection usually falls on the next working day. Germany bans trucks over 7.5 t on Sundays and, in July and August, on Saturdays on selected motorways including the A8 and A93 towards Austria; Austria's ban runs from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00. For the German leg see Prague – Munich.

What Tyrol makes and ships

Beyond tourism, Tyrol has specialised industry with high value per pallet. Typical imports into the Czech Republic:

  • cut glass, crystal products, costume jewellery and optics from the Inn valley east of Innsbruck,
  • pharmaceuticals and active ingredients from the lower Inn valley, often temperature-controlled,
  • powder-metallurgy parts and refractory metals such as tungsten and molybdenum from Reutte,
  • medical devices,
  • timber, Tyrolean mountain cheese and Tyrolean speck, a protected geographical indication.

Valuable, fragile or temperature-sensitive goods like these usually travel on a direct smaller vehicle with air suspension and data logging rather than in multi-stop groupage.

Supplying hotels and ski resorts

Much of what goes from the Czech Republic to Tyrol ends up in hotels, restaurants and ski areas in the valleys around Innsbruck, such as Stubai, Zillertal or Ötztal: furniture, hotel equipment, glass and porcelain, textiles, food and beer, plus building materials for off-season refurbishments. Demand peaks in autumn before the winter season, when free trucks are scarce. Access roads to mountain hotels are often too narrow or steep for an articulated truck, so we use rigid trucks or vans with tail lifts. Last-minute items before opening day go by express van, which the heavy-truck bans do not affect. For deliveries we need the exact address, the hotel's goods-in hours and whether there is a ramp or the goods are unloaded at street level.

Gateway to the Brenner

From Innsbruck the A13 climbs to the Brenner Pass, less than 40 km away, and on into Italy. Italian goods can be combined with a Tyrolean pick-up on the way to Czechia, and Czech consignments for Tyrol can continue to South Tyrol or northern Italy. The Brenner motorway has its own toll and frequent congestion; a rail base tunnel is under construction, and trailers and containers already go by rail from terminals at Hall and Wörgl. Paperwork is a CMR note plus invoice or delivery note, with a temperature record for pharmaceuticals and food. Get an estimate in the calculator.
