Graz – view of the city

Car plants, chips and Styrian steel

Graz is one of the few places in Central Europe where complete passenger cars are assembled under contract for several manufacturers. Around that has grown a dense supplier base for drivetrains, body parts and electronics, plus engineering firms specialised in engine development and testing. Semiconductors and sensors are produced just outside the city. For Czech customers this translates into imports of:

  • automotive parts and modules, often delivered into fixed production time slots,
  • test benches, measuring equipment and electronic components,
  • rails, wire and special steels from the Upper Styrian mills around Leoben and Kapfenberg,
  • paper, pulp and timber from one of Austria's most forested provinces.

Southbound, Czech suppliers ship castings and car parts for the Styrian automotive cluster, metal and plastic pressings, building materials, glass and furniture.

Routes from Graz to the Czech Republic

RouteApprox. distanceBest for
Graz – A2 – Vienna – Mikulov – Brno350 kmMoravia, same-day delivery
Graz – A9 Pyhrn – Linz – Dolní Dvořiště – Prague470 kmBohemia, next working day
Graz – Vienna – Brno – Prague530 kmwinter, groupage with stops in Moravia

The Bosruck and Gleinalm tunnels on the A9 carry a section toll on top of Austria's distance-based truck toll. Austria's weekend ban for trucks over 7.5 t runs from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00, so Friday afternoon collections need a realistic schedule.

The Pyhrn route crosses the mountains between Upper Austria and Styria. From 1 November to 15 April trucks over 3.5 t must run winter tyres on the drive axle and carry snow chains, and in heavy snowfall the longer motorway via Vienna can be the faster choice. We pick the route according to the weather and the delivery deadline.

Apples, pumpkin seed oil and wine

South-east Styria is Austria's largest apple-growing area and home of Styrian pumpkin seed oil, a protected geographical indication; the south of the province is a white-wine region on the Slovenian border. Apples are picked from late summer into autumn and shipped from cold stores all year round, so we book reefer trailers with set temperature and data logging. Oil and wine are sensitive to frost and heat and travel temperature-controlled in winter and summer. Smaller orders for delis and restaurants go by pallet groupage.

A gateway to the south-east

Maribor in Slovenia is only about 65 km from Graz via the A9 and the Spielfeld – Šentilj crossing, and Ljubljana is about 190 km away. We often combine Styrian and Slovenian pick-ups into one truck to the Czech Republic, or deliver Czech goods to Graz and continue south. A combined-transport terminal south of the city handles containers and swap bodies, and the new Koralm railway to Klagenfurt has been running since 2025, shortening links to Carinthia and the Adriatic ports. Goods arriving by rail can be collected at the terminal and trucked to you.

Before the truck arrives

  • Automotive suppliers load only on booked time slots, so confirm the slot early.
  • For parts in returnable packaging, agree the type and number of containers and who returns them.
  • Graz's old town has trams and pedestrian streets; a smaller vehicle suits city-centre deliveries, while warehouses on the outskirts have docks.
  • For loads collected directly from fruit growers we check that the farmyard can take an articulated truck.

Paperwork is a CMR note plus invoice or delivery note, with a temperature record for food. For regular weekly flows to Styria we arrange full truck loads on fixed days; single shipments can be priced in the calculator.
