Freight forwarding Ljubljana – transport between Slovenia and Czechia
Road freight between Ljubljana and Czechia: three routes via Austria, Slovenian toll and truck bans, pharma, chemicals and appliances, and links to Koper port.

Where two corridors cross
Slovenia's capital is also its main logistics hub: the motorway from Maribor to the port of Koper crosses the motorway from the Karawanken tunnel to Zagreb right here, and a ring road keeps through traffic out of the city. A large rail marshalling yard lies on the eastern side. That makes Ljubljana a natural collection and distribution point for goods heading between the Adriatic, the Balkans and Central Europe.
Goods from Ljubljana and Slovenia
- pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical ingredients, produced in volume in and around Ljubljana, often temperature-controlled,
- paints, coatings and other chemicals,
- food and drink, dairy and beer,
- electrical equipment, electric motors and household appliances from Slovenian plants,
- car parts, aluminium, special steels, timber and furniture from other regions, consolidated via Ljubljana.
Southbound, Czech companies ship automotive and engineering components, machinery, glass, paper, building materials, food and beer. Small volumes travel by pallet groupage, which can be combined with a pick-up in Graz on the way.
Pharmaceuticals usually travel at 15–25 °C or chilled at 2–8 °C with continuous temperature logging, so we book carriers whose vehicles hold the required range in both summer and winter. Zagreb is only about 140 km from Ljubljana, which lets us combine Czech deliveries to Slovenia and Croatia on one truck.
Three routes through Austria
- Brno – Mikulov – Vienna – Graz – Maribor – Ljubljana: about 540 km from Brno, the natural choice for Moravia.
- Prague – Dolní Dvořiště – Linz – Pyhrn – Graz – Ljubljana: about 660 km from Prague, the most common route for Bohemia.
- Prague – Linz – Salzburg – Tauern – Karawanken – Ljubljana: also about 660 km, useful with stops in Salzburg or Carinthia.
From Brno a truck usually reaches Ljubljana the same or next working day; from Prague allow 1–2 working days, as the distance is at the limit of one driver's daily range. The Karawanken and Tauern tunnels and the Pyhrn motorway carry section tolls on top of Austria's distance-based truck toll.
Slovenian road rules
Vehicles over 3.5 t pay a distance-based electronic toll on Slovenian motorways and need an on-board unit. Trucks over 7.5 t may not drive on Sundays and public holidays from 8:00 to 22:00. During the summer tourist season, roughly late June to early September, a Saturday ban from 6:00 to 16:00 applies on roads to the coast, including the Ljubljana – Koper motorway, and there are extra restrictions before Easter. Combined with Austria's ban from Saturday 15:00, Friday loads in Ljubljana have to clear Austria on Friday or deliver on Monday.
Koper, about 110 km away
Much of what is shipped "from Slovenia" arrived by sea at Koper, a container and car port serving all of Central Europe, the Czech Republic included. Containers are often stripped in Ljubljana warehouses and the goods distributed by pallet. For a container pick-up we need the container number, release and customs status.
Loading and unloading in Ljubljana
Industrial and retail zones off the ring road have docks and booked time slots. The historic centre is car-free, with time-limited delivery access suited only to small vans. Please confirm address, opening hours, pallet count, size and weight, and dock availability. Slovenia is in the EU and the eurozone, so a CMR note plus invoice or delivery note is enough, with a temperature record for pharmaceuticals and food. Get an estimate in the calculator.
