Freight forwarding Kassel – transport to and from Czechia
Freight forwarding Kassel: car parts, spare parts, solar inverters, potash fertiliser and salt from North Hesse, moved by road to and from the Czech Republic.

Motorways at the centre of the country
The A7, Germany's longest motorway, runs through Kassel on its way from the Danish border to the south. The A44 heads west to the Ruhr and the A49 runs south. A little further south, around Bad Hersfeld in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, the A7 meets the A4 and A5. That triangle is lined with large distribution centres, because most of Germany can be supplied from there within one driving shift. Czech goods sold to German web shops or retail chains often end up here rather than at the buyer's head office.
The eastern A44 link from Kassel towards Eisenach is still being completed in stages, so traffic from Bohemia mostly uses the A4 and A7. Expect roadworks and heavy transit traffic on the A7.
Industry around Kassel
With roughly 200,000 inhabitants, Kassel is the largest city in North Hesse. The cargo potential comes from the surrounding industry:
- a large car-component plant in neighbouring Baunatal, the region's biggest employer, plus a central spare-parts warehouse of a carmaker nearby,
- railway vehicles, with a locomotive-building tradition that continues today,
- special-purpose and defence vehicles and their components,
- solar inverters and power electronics from Niestetal on the city's edge,
- potash and salt mined in the Werra valley east of Kassel, on the Hesse–Thuringia border, used for fertiliser, industrial salt and road salt.
Typical imports to the Czech Republic follow from that list: production and service parts, components for solar installations, and fertiliser or salt for farming, chemicals and winter road maintenance. Czech exporters ship castings, forgings, machined parts and wiring harnesses for the automotive sector, plus consumer goods for distribution centres, glass, furniture and food.
Route and transit times
From Prague the usual route is the D8 to Krásný Les / Breitenau, the A4 via Chemnitz, Erfurt and Eisenach to the A7 junction at Kirchheim, then north to Kassel. The alternative goes via Leipzig and the A38 to Göttingen, then south on the A7. Both are approximately 520 km. From Karlovy Vary via Cheb and Hof it is about 450 km, from Brno about 720 km.
| Option | From | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| Full truck | Prague, West Bohemia | same day, or next morning after a late loading |
| Full truck | Brno, Zlín | second working day |
| Pallet groupage | anywhere in Czechia | two to four working days |
| Express van | anywhere in Czechia | same day or overnight |
Heavy, bulky and dangerous loads
Potash fertiliser and salt are heavy: big bags or pallets of sacks reach the legal weight limit long before the trailer is full, so we need weights, not just pallet counts. Fertiliser must stay dry, so the curtain-sider has to be intact. Certain nitrate-based fertilisers are dangerous goods; for those we book ADR transport. Demand for road salt peaks before winter and tightens truck capacity in the region, so book autumn loads early. Railway or special vehicles and their large assemblies are typical oversize loads that need permits and route planning well ahead.
Rules and practical points
Germany bans trucks over 7.5 tonnes on Sundays and public holidays, and on summer Saturdays on selected motorways; toll applies above 3.5 tonnes. Within the EU no customs formalities apply, so a CMR plus invoice or delivery note will do. Every five years the documenta contemporary art exhibition fills the city; deliveries into central Kassel during that period are best scheduled early in the morning. FAQ
About 520 km via the D8, A4 and A7. A full truck arrives the same day, or the next morning if loading is late.
Yes, bagged goods and big bags in a dry curtain-sider. Fertilisers classified as dangerous goods travel with an ADR-equipped carrier.
Yes, an express van leaves once the order is confirmed and drives straight to you without transhipment.
The A4, A5 and A7 meet there in the middle of Germany, so many retailers built central warehouses in that area.
Up to roughly six pallets, groupage usually makes sense at two to four working days. For larger volumes or urgent loads we book a dedicated vehicle.
Within the EU a CMR consignment note and an invoice or delivery note. Dangerous goods also need ADR documents.
