A whole trailer for your goods only
With a full truckload, the vehicle drives from shipper to consignee directly, with no transhipment and no stops for other customers' freight. A standard tractor and semi-trailer offers a loading length of 13.6 metres and holds 33 Euro pallets side by side. Depending on the combination, payload is roughly 24 tonnes. In practice: once your goods fill most of the floor, or approach the weight limit, a full truck is usually the sensible choice even if some space stays empty.
Trailer types and when to use them
| Trailer | Suited to | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Curtainsider (standard) | Palletised goods, building materials, machinery, most industrial freight | Loads from the rear, side or top |
| Mega trailer | Bulky, light goods – insulation, furniture, plastic products, packaging | Higher internal height, lower deck; needs a suitable dock |
| Refrigerated | Food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, plants | Holds and records a set temperature; rigid walls – rear loading only |
Unsure whether your cargo fits a standard trailer or needs a mega? Send us the dimensions and weights of the individual pieces and we will specify the vehicle.
Rear, side or top loading
The loading method must be known in advance, as it affects both the vehicle choice and the time spent on site.
- Rear, from a dock – the fastest and most common option at distribution centres. The trailer reverses onto the dock and pallets go in by pallet truck.
- Side – on curtainsiders the curtain slides back for forklift loading. Typical for building materials, steel, timber or sites without a dock.
- Top – by crane once the roof is opened. Used for long materials, coils or machines that a forklift cannot pick up.
The driver is responsible for correct load distribution and securing, but loading itself is normally done by the shipper. Check that they have the right equipment and agree how many straps or anti-slip mats will be needed.
Full loads of materials into the Czech Republic
Full truckloads are the most common way industrial and construction materials reach Czechia. We arrange collection at the manufacturer or distributor abroad and delivery to your warehouse, site or production line. Typical inbound jobs include:
- Steel – sheets, sections, bars and coils, where weight matters more than volume and side or crane loading is common.
- Timber and board – sawn timber, plywood, OSB and chipboard, often side-loaded.
- Tiles – heavy pallets that exhaust payload before floor space, with careful attention to axle loads.
- Chemicals in IBCs – non-hazardous products travel on a standard trailer; for substances with a UN number we arrange ADR transport.
- Machinery – complete lines or their parts, often loaded from above.
How we plan a full-load run
Transit time for a full truck depends mainly on distance and driving-time rules. A single driver covers roughly 600 to 700 km a day, so a load from central Germany usually takes one working day, from Italy or France two to three. Weekend and holiday truck bans in many European countries also have to be factored in: if you need goods on Monday morning, plan collection for Thursday or Friday morning.
If your cargo fills only part of a trailer, compare a full truck with a part load or pallet groupage. Indicative prices for both are in the calculator.
