Nuremberg – freight destination from Prague

A direct lane: D5, Rozvadov, A6

Nuremberg is approximately 300 km from Prague on one of the most direct routes into Germany. Trucks take the D5 past Plzeň to the Rozvadov / Waidhaus border crossing and continue on the German A6 through the Upper Palatinate, past Amberg, to the Nuremberg motorway junction. Driving time is about three and a half hours, so a full load collected in Franconia in the morning is unloaded in Prague or Plzeň the same afternoon. Groupage pallets normally take one to two working days.

Rozvadov is the busiest Czech–German crossing for freight. The Schengen border is open, but random German police checks can cause queues, so for time-critical shipments our dispatchers watch the traffic and allow a margin. Large truck stops near the border let drivers take their mandatory breaks without eating into the delivery slot.

Franconian goods for Czech buyers

The Nuremberg–Erlangen–Fürth area is strong in electrical engineering, drives and automation, and nearby Schweinfurt is a European centre for rolling bearings. Nuremberg also has a long tradition of toys, writing instruments and gingerbread. Typical imports we arrange:

  • electric motors, drives, inverters and control cabinets,
  • measurement, control and medical technology,
  • rolling bearings and mechanical engineering parts,
  • automotive components,
  • toys, board games, model kits and writing instruments,
  • gingerbread and confectionery, malt and hops for breweries,
  • glass, ceramics, plastic parts and electronics from the Upper Palatinate along the route.

Czech exports to Franconia include castings, pressings, machined parts, cable harnesses, timber and building materials, so return loads are plentiful.

The port on the Main–Danube Canal

Nuremberg has an inland port on the Main–Danube Canal with a rail-connected container terminal. Containers from the seaports arrive here by train, so a Czech importer can collect overseas goods in Nuremberg instead of Hamburg or Rotterdam and keep the road leg to around 300 km. The freight village next to the port has warehouses with dock loading and fixed time slots.

Collecting along the A6

If you buy from several suppliers in Nuremberg, Amberg or Weiden, one truck can collect from each and deliver everything together. Malt and hops for Czech breweries need a clean, dry, odour-free trailer that has not carried chemicals or feed, and in summer we prefer a direct run or a reefer because hops dislike heat. Smaller volumes travel as groupage pallets; a full trailer goes direct as truck transport. When a line stops because a bearing or motor is missing, an express van leaves as soon as it is loaded.

Bavarian holidays and the pre-Christmas peak

Nuremberg is in Bavaria, which has more public holidays than most German states, including Epiphany on 6 January, Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day on 1 November. On these days and on Sundays trucks over 7.5 tonnes may not run and warehouses are closed; in summer a Saturday ban applies on selected motorways. In autumn, toys, gingerbread and sweets flow ahead of Christmas and truck capacity on the lane tightens, so book seasonal goods a few days earlier than usual. The toy fair at the start of the year brings exhibit and stand transport with strict arrival times.

Documents and preparation

No customs apply between Czechia and Germany; a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note are sufficient, plus a temperature log for chilled food. Tolls are included. Ask your supplier to confirm the address, opening hours, loading method, pallet count, dimensions and weight, and make sure heavy items such as large bearings are firmly fixed to the pallet. Prices are in our calculator, with an offer usually within 30 minutes.
