Freight forwarding Viseu – transport to and from the Czech Republic
Transport between Viseu and the Czech Republic: Dão wine, Beira Alta apples and cheese to Czechia, car parts from Czechia for Mangualde. Right on the A25 to Spain.

On the way out of Portugal
Viseu is not a detour. The A25 runs from the coast near Aveiro through Viseu and Guarda to the Spanish border at Vilar Formoso / Fuentes de Oñoro, and the A24 heads north from Viseu towards Chaves. A truck leaving Porto or Aveiro for Central Europe passes the city anyway, so picking up a few pallets in Viseu costs little extra time. That makes the city a natural fit for pallet groupage and for combined collections across the region, for example textiles near Porto, ceramics around Aveiro and wine from Viseu, with Viseu usually the final stop before the border.
The Spanish border is only about 130 km away; Prague is roughly 2,500 km and Brno about 200 km further. A full truck with one driver typically reaches Czechia in 4–5 working days, groupage pallets in 6–9.
What the region sells
- Dão wine – Viseu is the centre of the Dão, one of Portugal's oldest demarcated wine regions, known for reds from Touriga Nacional and whites from Encruzado.
- Apples – the Beira Alta uplands around Viseu are orchard country, and their apples carry a protected geographical indication. They are harvested in autumn and shipped from cold stores through the winter.
- Serra da Estrela cheese – the sheep's cheese from the mountains between Viseu and Guarda.
Wine travels excise-duty-suspended or duty-paid with the matching electronic or simplified document; agree who handles excise in Czechia before collection. Apples and cheese need temperature-controlled trailers with a temperature record. Many wineries are small and have no dock, so we send vehicles with a tail lift. If wine or dry goods share a trailer with apples, the set temperature must suit everything on board.
Trade has deep roots here: King John I granted Viseu its Feira de São Mateus in 1392, and the fair still takes place every summer.
Seasons and winter on the inland route
Viseu sits in hilly country, and beyond it the A25 climbs to Guarda, Portugal's highest city at around 1,000 m. Snow and ice are possible there in winter, so for deadline-critical shipments between December and February we build in a buffer. Apples move from cold stores between autumn and spring, while wine orders peak towards the end of the year. If you want Dão wine on Czech shelves before Christmas, book transport several weeks ahead, because demand for temperature-controlled trailers rises at that time.
Supplying the car plant in Mangualde
Just east of Viseu, in Mangualde, a vehicle assembly plant has operated since 1964, today building mainly MPVs and light commercial vehicles, with suppliers nearby. Czechia is one of Europe's large producers of automotive components, so metal and plastic parts, wiring harnesses, fasteners and packaging regularly travel this way. Production deliveries come with fixed unloading slots. We schedule departures around the weekend driving bans in France and Germany, switch to two drivers or an express van when timing is tight, and agree on the return of reusable containers.
