Freight and Imports from Zagreb to the Czech Republic
Road freight from Zagreb to the Czech Republic via Slovenia and Austria: timber, furniture, electrical goods and pharma by express van, pallets or full truck.

What Czech buyers source around Zagreb
Zagreb is Croatia's economic hub, and the area around it hosts much of the country's industry and its main distribution warehouses. Inbound loads to the Czech Republic and Slovakia typically include:
- oak and beech timber, sawn and semi-finished,
- solid and upholstered furniture, often handled piece by piece,
- electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, cables and switchgear,
- pharmaceuticals and cosmetics in temperature-controlled trailers,
- food: spices, soups and seasonings, olive oil from the coast, frozen fish, wine,
- metal structures, profiles and insulation materials.
One day on the road
The usual route leaves Zagreb towards Maribor, crosses into Slovenia at Macelj/Gruškovje, enters Austria at Spielfeld, follows the A2 via Graz to Vienna and reaches the Czech Republic at Drasenhofen/Mikulov, continuing on the D1 to Brno and Prague. Prague is roughly 650–700 km away, Brno about 450–500 km. For destinations in Bohemia a route via the Pyhrn motorway and Linz can be shorter.
A single driver covers this in one working day within the driving-time limits. Goods loaded in Zagreb in the morning usually reach Prague the next morning and Moravia often the same evening, so a full truck needs about 1–2 working days including loading and unloading.
Containers via Rijeka
Zagreb is the natural inland base for the Adriatic port of Rijeka, roughly two hours away. Some overseas cargo therefore reaches Czech customers through Croatian terminals: the container is discharged in Rijeka or at a logistics centre near Zagreb, then either continues on a trailer or is stripped onto pallets. If your goods arrive this way, send us the container number, release date and customs status. Duty on non-EU goods is settled at the port of entry, not at the Czech border.
Four countries, four toll systems
On this short run the truck passes through Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic. Croatia uses toll plazas, while Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic charge electronically by distance. Our freight calculator includes all of them.
Austria bans heavy trucks from Saturday afternoon to Sunday night and on public holidays, with night restrictions on many sections. Slovenia bans them on Sundays and holidays and on some summer Saturdays. Croatia's seasonal weekend limits mainly affect roads to the coast, not the Zagreb area. Croatia is in the EU and the Schengen area, so there is no customs duty and no routine border control, although random police checks can occasionally cause short delays.
Which service fits
Because the distance is short, express transport by van is often worthwhile here: spare parts or urgent medicines can arrive the same evening or next morning. Up to around ten pallets without a deadline travel on our groupage pallet service in about 2–4 working days. Timber and furniture usually go as full truckloads, because they are bulky and do not tolerate repeated handling. Pharmaceuticals and frozen fish need a reefer with a temperature log.
Exports and pickup tips
From the Czech Republic we ship building materials, glass, engineering products, car parts, paper and packaging, chemicals and beverages to Zagreb. In spring, before the tourist season, demand for trucks carrying hotel equipment and supplies rises sharply, so book early.
Ask your supplier to confirm the exact address and warehouse hours, whether there is a dock or a tail lift is needed, the number and size of pallets and the total weight. For furniture, tell us whether it is palletised or loose. Paperwork is simple: a CMR consignment note and an invoice or delivery note, plus a temperature record for chilled goods.
