Road freight and forwarding — Italy
Italy is one of the destinations we serve with regular truck transport from the Czech Republic and back. We cover Milan as well as other regions. We carry full truckloads (FTL) and smaller part loads (LTL), from a single pallet to a complete trailer.
Among the most frequent lanes are Prague → Milán, Prague → Rome, Prague → Naples, Prague → Turin. CMR consignment notes and complete transport and customs paperwork are always included. On busy lanes we look for backloads, which keeps the transport cost down and delivery times short — typically 24–72 hours within the EU.
A no-obligation freight quote arrives within 30 minutes — just tell us where from, where to and what. Get a price or see how our freight rates work.

The Alps set the route and the schedule
Between the Czech Republic and Italy lie the Alps, and the crossing matters more for delivery dates than the distance itself.
- Brenner – via Munich, Kufstein and Innsbruck onto the Austrian A13 and Italian A22 to Bolzano, Verona and the Po Valley. The shortest way to Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, but subject to Tyrolean truck metering near Kufstein, a night-time driving ban and a sectoral ban on certain goods.
- Tauern – via Linz or Salzburg on the Austrian A10 through the Tauern tunnel to Villach, then via Tarvisio on the A23 to Udine and Venice. Ideal for north-eastern Italy and as an alternative when the Brenner is congested.
- Switzerland (Gotthard) – only occasionally for Piedmont and western Lombardy, as Switzerland is outside the EU and a transit customs document is required.
Prague to Milan is roughly 900 km, Rome about 1,300 km and Naples over 1,500 km. See the Prague – Milan route.
Northern and southern Italy
Most Italian imports into the Czech Republic come from the industrial north, reachable in two working days with dock loading in industrial zones. The south is agricultural and further away, with pickups more often at cooperatives, olive mills and small producers.
- Lombardy – machinery, machine tools, valves and fittings, chemicals, plastics, textiles and fashion.
- Emilia-Romagna – ceramic tiles, packaging and farm machinery, ham, cheese and vinegar; see Bologna.
- Veneto and Friuli – furniture, eyewear, hardware, prosecco and wine, coffee machines.
- Piedmont – automotive parts, food, chocolate and wine.
- Tuscany and Marche – stone and marble, leather and footwear, textiles, furniture, olive oil.
- South and islands – pasta, canned tomatoes, olive oil, citrus fruit, vegetables and wine.
Czech exports to Italy are mainly car parts, steel and metal goods, timber, glass, paper and food.
Transit times
| Area | Full truckload | Pallet groupage |

| Tuscany, Marche, Rome | 3 working days | 4–5 working days |
| Campania, Apulia, Calabria | 3–4 working days | 5+ working days |
| Sicily, Sardinia | 4–5 working days incl. ferry | depends on sailings |
Bans and tolls
Italy bans trucks over 7.5 tonnes during the day on Sundays and public holidays, with earlier start times in summer and extra Saturdays and Fridays added. The Ministry of Transport publishes the calendar each year and we check it for every order. Austrian and German weekend bans along the route add further limits, so a truck loaded in Italy on Friday afternoon often reaches the Czech Republic on Monday. Motorways are tolled at barriers by number of axles; historic centres have restricted traffic zones and Milan runs a large low-emission zone.
Loading and documents
Italian companies often take a long lunch break and many close for collective holidays in August, so plan August imports early. Ceramics and stone are heavy, and a truck often reaches its weight limit before it is full. No customs apply within the EU: a CMR note and invoice or delivery note suffice, wine travels with an electronic excise document and chilled food with a temperature record.
