Road freight and forwarding — Sweden

Sweden is one of the destinations we serve with regular truck transport from the Czech Republic and back. We cover Stockholm as well as other regions. We carry full truckloads (FTL) and smaller part loads (LTL), from a single pallet to a complete trailer.

Among the most frequent lanes are Prague → Stockholm, Prague → Malmö, Prague → Göteborg, Prague → Gothenburg. CMR consignment notes and complete transport and customs paperwork are always included. On busy lanes we look for backloads, which keeps the transport cost down and delivery times short — typically 24–72 hours within the EU.

A no-obligation freight quote arrives within 30 minutes — just tell us where from, where to and what. Get a price or see how our freight rates work.

Choosing the crossing

Every load between the Czech Republic and Sweden includes either a ferry or a bridge, and the right choice depends mainly on where in Sweden the goods are and on the sailing schedules.

  • Rostock – Trelleborg: from Prague via the D8, Dresden and Berlin to Rostock (about 580 km), then by ferry to southern Sweden. The shortest road leg from Bohemia.
  • Travemünde – Trelleborg or Malmö: via Hamburg and Lübeck, handy when combined with pick-ups in northern Germany.
  • Through Denmark: Puttgarden – Rødby or Rostock – Gedser ferries, then Copenhagen and the Öresund bridge and tunnel to Malmö. Little time at sea and convenient if something is also collected in Denmark.

Night ferries have a practical advantage: the driver can take rest on board, so the crossing counts more favourably towards driving-time rules than the same hours on the road.

What Czech buyers import from Swedish regions

For Czech industry, Sweden is mainly a source of raw materials and engineered components:

  • Norrland and central Sweden – sawn timber, board materials, pulp, paper and cardboard.
  • Bergslagen and Dalarna – steel, special and tool steels, metal semi-finished products and profiles.
  • West Sweden and Gothenburg – automotive parts, bearings, engineering components and overseas cargo through Scandinavia's largest port; see our Gothenburg page.
  • Småland – furniture, wood products, glass and small engineering firms.
  • Skåne – food, packaging materials and distribution warehouses serving all of Scandinavia.
  • Stockholm and Mälardalen – electronics, telecom equipment, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Transit times

Loading regionFull truck to the Czech Republic
Skåne, Malmö area2 working days
Gothenburg, west coast2–3 working days
Stockholm, Mälardalen3 working days
Central Sweden3–4 working days; the far north longer

Pallet groupage needs extra time for collection and consolidation, usually two to three days more. Timber, steel and paper are heavy or bulky and are normally best moved as full loads.

Ferry capacity sells out before holidays and in summer, so book Swedish pick-ups a few days ahead and ask your supplier to confirm opening hours and whether they load from a dock or by forklift from the side.

Winter, charges and rules

From December to March, plan for winter conditions. Heavy vehicles in Sweden must use winter tyres in winter weather and drivers carry snow chains. Driving in the north takes longer in winter, so for loads above the Arctic Circle we build in extra time.

Sweden has no general weekend truck ban, but the German leg is subject to the Sunday and holiday ban for vehicles over 7.5 t. The Öresund crossing and ferries are charged separately, Stockholm and Gothenburg levy congestion charges and Germany charges distance-based toll. All of this is included in the calculator price.

Paperwork and southbound loads

Sweden is in the EU, so goods travel duty-free with a CMR note and an invoice or delivery note. For timber and paper, ask your supplier for exact package weights and dimensions: long lengths and large paper reels need the right trailer and side loading. Northbound, we carry Czech machinery, car parts, glass, building materials and food. If you also load in Denmark, see transport to Denmark – both countries fit into one trip.
